Success!
The administration has confirmed that boys' volleyball has been added
as a full varsity sport this spring! All the details have been worked out,
and we are hiring a coach. We will compete in the WCAL against other 1st and 2nd
year teams. If you or anybody you know would like to arrainge a
game against us, E-mail me.
We have excellent talent at Los Gatos. Three USAV All-Americans
attend our school with a total of 9 players with club experience.
Without two of our best players we nearly beat Harbor, the #1 team in
CCS, after only one practice together. (See below for more details)
Last year, for the first time, there was a Powder-Puff style
game against Saratoga.
Russel Tanner, Brad Griffith, Keith Busam, Devin Sodt, myself, and a
cast of others easily handled Saratoga. (Excuse! Starters removed
after 13-1 in first set.)
The team, with the addition
of Chris Schlink, Paul Regner, Parnell Pang, and Paul Bauer, competed
in the Alisal (Salinas) tournament. We went in seeded last (12th),
and
immediately played Harbor. We took a quick 12-2 lead, but eventually
lost
as they keyed off our shorter players in the front row. (Excuse!
Chris and I were not there
for the game). We ended up losing a very close game to the 2-time
defending
champions and eventual second place finishers Homestead in the
playoff, finishig 3rd.
If we would have held more
than one practice, we may have won that match.
